ICONS FOR AWARENESS

design brief + Original sketches

I created a two color poster for print utilizing metaphors and symbolism to raise awareness about a specific issue. I want to educate the audience about the issue that backyard breeding has on the domesticated animal population, as well as the negative effects it brings forth.

My initial sketches had included dogs in most of them, as my concepts were originally a mix of Adopt, Don’t Shop and backyard breeding. Dogs are usually the main species of animal that is greatly affected by it, so I decided to go with a dog in my design.

FINAL POSTER

Most of my ideas included an aggressive dog and the concept of money. Aggression is a common factor with backyard bred dogs and, the profit from them is the leading point for why it happens. I narrowed my design down to the Dobermann snapping. I simplified the artwork and made it two color, as the greenish blue wasn't working.

SOCIAL MEDIA

I explored design styles more in my social media designs. I used different media for both of them. I decided that some halftone images of aggressive dogs would be an effective choice and I used that for both of the facebook style posts. For the Instagram style posts, I wanted to use more illustrations, so I ended up doing three posts, formatting it so they worked both cohesively and apart.

STICKER DESIGN

My design for my sticker was pretty simple, I really only had one idea in mind, the other one I planned had turned into an instagram post. I ended up going with the one idea I had.
